about

As is often the case with music projects, this release has been a long time coming. Alex first showed me these songs when we met as graduate students at the University of California, Santa Cruz in Fall of 2019. In those pre-pandemic days, we started meeting and improvising on this song cycle centered on the words of Gary Snyder. After playing, these words would stick in my head for days. When I started Hungry Badger, I did so hoping that Alex and I could release the recordings we eventually put together remotely in 2020. Now, over a year on from completing the recordings, we are incredibly excited to release the song cycle as one, long-form recording with interspersed field recordings. This release also marks Hungry Badger's first foray into print publishing as we are working on producing a songbook for the release.
